Our Horses
Uncle Al
Age: Six
Sire: Leading Light
Dam: Milling Road
Trainer: Jessica Bedi, Yarm, Northumberland
Discipline: National Hunt - Hurdling, with a view to going over fences in the future.
A horse we have taken in from the very start of his career and with the right amount of effort and patience, we hope that Uncle Al can repay the potential we have always seen in him! He would arrive at Jess's yard as a store horse, unraced and backward in 2024. Since then, he has strengthened and grown in confidence and is all set to give it his all on the track.
He is a son of the St Leger and Ascot Gold Cup winner Leading Light, who has started to stamp his class on the National Hunt scene courtesy of his progeny which includes the Grade One winner Three Stripe Life and the smart Light N Strike. The dam Milling Road was unraced herself, but has produced our lad's talented half brother, Jody Ted; who won twice over fences last season in Ireland and was sent off favourite for the ultra-competitive Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown in 2023. Further back in the family, the Grade Two winner and Grade One runner up Loosen My Load is also a member of the extended family.
"Al" would make his racecourse debut in a an-of-the-season bumper at the prestigious Perth Festival, which is often attended by many leading trainers and horses. Sent off at three figure odds in the betting, we all knew he had a stiff task at hand and so it was proved as he returned home last of thirteen. This would merely be his first day at school and it gave us something to work on going forward. A couple of months later, he would go straight over hurdles. Racing at the picturesque and unique venue of Hexham, Uncle Al was once again held up at the rear, getting his eye in over hurdles. On his hurdling debut, he would pull up before the third last, but the aim of the game was about gaining experience on track. A similar story would follow on his third start at Market Rasen, pulling up for the second time, but it would be on his fourth start where we began to see a change in fortunes.
Returning to Hexham, two months after his first visit, Uncle Al would line up in a small field novice hurdle over two and a half miles. With a low turnout, a decent amount of prize money was to play for, but Al would exceed market expectations. Jumping well and travelling nicely behind the leaders, Uncle Al remained in contention approaching the second last; which raised our pulses. The two main protagonists would kick away to fight out the finish, but Al would return in third, which was a brilliant run in our eyes. He may have been beaten a long way on paper, but this was a marked improvement on his previous efforts.
With winter approaching once again, we hope that this work in progress chaser of the future can continue to learn on the job and put his best foot forward. We have seen the talent he shows for ourselves on the gallops, now he is showing it on track which means it is a perfect time to invest in Uncle Al.

Apache Eagle
Age: Four
Sire: New Approach
Dam: Yanabeeaa
Trainer: Jess Bedi, Yarm, Northallerton
Discipline: 1m 4f on the flat, with the potential to go hurdling.
Everyone loves a grey, so a share in Apache Eagle would be a perfect gift idea for a loved one. We are delighted to welcome the four year old Apache Eagle to our team and this well built gelding has plenty of undiscovered potential to unearth.
The grey is a son of the outstanding New Approach, a top class juvenile and winner of the 2008 Epsom Derby and subsequent sire of the likes of Classic winners Dawn Approach, Masar, Talent and Mac Swiney. On the female side, there is plenty to like on the page with lots of success in both the flat and national hunt codes. Apache Eagle is a half brother to Mardoof, who has placed on the flat over staying distances before finishing on the podium over hurdles as well. Further back in the pedigree, all the way to the third dam, Infamy, a tonne of winners can be found. The highest profile of them would be Rostropovich, a high class dual purpose horse. Having finished second in the Group Two Prix Chaudenay in 2000, he switched his attentions to hurdling where he became a house hold name. Taking part in a Champion Hurdle and taking third in a Grade One at Punchestown, he was a very fun horse for connections.
Apache Eagle has raced just four times in his career, all of which came in 2024. Starting out life in Ireland with the high profile Joseph O'Brien stable, he showed minimal promise on track, finishing tailed off over a range of distances. Following his third run, he would jump over the Irish Sea and join up with Newmarket-based trained Michael Wigham, where he offered a little more to play with. Lining up at Chelmsford in October 2024, he wasn't beaten far when finishing fifth over a mile and three-quarters, showing potential over staying trips.
Apache Eagle is fit and ready to return to action, this time in our grey and red silks. We hope to start out on the flat to get his eye in, but with a high class family of jumpers, it opens the door to a hurdling campaign in the future.
